I'm stumped as I've exhausted my knowledge of the workings of the Mac machine.įor reference, my Mac Book Pro is running Mac OS X 10.5.8. I have created a folder called model on this drive and stored a file called model. I have USB connected WD 4 TB hard drive that appears as 'My Passport for Mac' in finder. If you provide the full path and have read access you should be able to read in your csv. The thing is, when I use 'Get Info' on the Mac formatted portion, I can't change the permissions (they're all greyed out and unclickable). External drives can be found under /Volumes on macOS. I've searched around a little for help on this problem, but the majority of answers seem to be with changing the permission on the hard drive.

I can still access and write to both portions when I use my PC, so I figure it's something that happened or changed on the Mac. The problem arose when a few days ago I found I couldn't write to the Mac formatted portion of the hard drive from my Mac Book Pro. I have MacDrive on my PC, which runs Windows 7, so I can read/write on both formats.

See if operating as user 99:99 under Linux has an influence on the outcome. I would advise to take a disposable USB thumb drive, format it on the Mac, move it to the Pi, do stuff and connect it back to the Mac. It could be possible that files that do not belong to 99:99 in a shared volume upset the Mac to the point it refuses to recognize the system. You could create a user on Linux matching these uid:gid and force all activity to be done under that user in you mount options. The Mac, IIRC, will set by default a USB volume as shared, and all files belong to a special user with uid:gid 99:99. They will mount on my iMac and MacBook Pro but will not allow me to 'talk'. Use the Mac for sensitive operations like removing journaling or heavy file system repairs. Cant read or write to external HDs (problem and attempted 'fixes') I have 2 One-Tb drives (one Western Dig other is Seagate and neither appears to have any hardware problems) that wont allow me to access their info. In general hfs+ on Linux is okay but not bulletproof. It’s unclear what you did and made the drive disappear from the Mac.
